How do I open a CSV file in Microsoft Excel?

A CSV file is a Comma Separated Value file, meaning it is essentially a simple text file where the separate columns are separated by commas (you can open it in Notepad if you’d like to see how it is formatted).

Most versions of Microsoft Excel support this simple format, so it is usually as simple as opening Microsoft Excel then clicking the Open File button, or select the Open… menu option in the menu and choosing the CSV file from where you have saved it on your computer. You may have to change the “Files of type” bar to display text files in your file browser before the CSV file appears.

Excel should then run through a import process, you shouldn’t need to change any of the default values for this process. Keep clicking Next and then finally Finish until your data is displayed in the spreadsheet.
